Emergency Haiti Earthquake Relief Urgently Needed!
| HAITI UPDATE: LEOGANE In the midst of so much loss, we have some good news to report: Sr. Alta, Mother Superior of the Companions of Jesus, and Sr. Edna, the principal of our school, and the school staff are safe and unharmed. Also, the residents of the Village of Jesus, our home for abandoned and sick women, were out of harm’s way when the earthquake struck and are uninjured. Miraculously, they happened to be outside, praying before the shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary. However, two sisters from the community were lost. As for the children and families, all we know is that the children were not attending school at the time of the earthquake. There is property damage, both at the Annunciation School/Village of Jesus compound, and at Bethleem, the home and farm of the Sisters of the Companions of Jesus. Sr. Alta reported that some walls on the compound are cracked, but that the wall at Bethleem that secures the buildings and farmland is more significantly damaged. Sr. Alta wrote, "This is terrible for us; I never saw something like this. Pray for us." |
Mission Haiti is issuing an emergency appeal or funds to help Haiti recover and restore lives following Tuesday's catastrophic 7.0 magnitude earthquake. Disasters like this one are especially devastating when they strike places that are already struggling to provide the most basic of services for its population. All funds raised will be used in the recovery and rebuilding effort in Haiti. |
Believing in the dignity of all people, we support education and share blessings, food, medicine, and shelter with our Haitian brothers and sisters. "What the eye has not seen does not touch the heart." Mission Haiti is a non-profit organization founded and run by enthusiastic, committed volunteers. We are dedicated to supporting and sharing blessings with the impoverished but extraordinary resilient Haitians. Our resources primarily fund education, a daily meal for our school in Leogane, and support a caring, safe home to abandoned, elderly women. We have seen the people of the poorest nation in the western hemisphere and they have touched our hearts. |
